Shawnee Elementary School Additions & Renovations
Easton Area School District
Forks Township, Northampton County, PA
The Shawnee Elementary School (formerly known as Paxinosa Elementary School) additions project proposed approximately 28,000 SF of building additions to accommodate 12 new classrooms, a new cafeteria, and a new administrative area. In addition to the building additions, a paved driveway, 9 parking spaces, and a loading dock were also proposed. Finally, a new playground area and walkway additions and improvements were proposed. The project involved stormwater improvements consisting of a collection and conveyance system and an underground detention facility. The site lies within sinkhole prone soils and therefore the underground detention facility was creatively modified to act as a holding facility for excess storm volume to be irrigated on an adjacent athletic field. The site design also included Erosion and Sediment Pollution controls measures during construction which were reviewed and approved by Northampton County Conservation District. The project falls within a high quality watershed classification and required individual NPDES permitting from PA DEP. Terraform worked with Forks Township to obtain zoning relief for impervious coverage and all necessary land development approvals.
